Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and the most populous city in the country. It has a population of 506 892 inhabitants, within its administrative limits. In the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon, 2,821,697 people live (2011), making it the largest and most populous metropolitan area in the country. Lisbon is the political center of Portugal, the seat of the Government and the residence of the Head of State.
